The idea
Each row of a grid carries a fixed ring of four letters — the right one and three decoys — that the player rotates until it lines up with a shared target column, like dialing in a combination cryptex.
The goal Make the hidden word appear, letter by letter, in the target column.
How to play
Animated example
-
Find the target column
Each row of the grid is a ring of four letters: the right one and three decoys. Every row shares the same target column.
-
Rotate the rows
Use the arrows to turn each ring, like the dial of a cryptex, until the right letter lands in the target column.
-
Read the word
When every row is set, the word reads from top to bottom and the lock opens.
Good to know
- Three word lengths to choose from: 5, 6 or 7 letters.
- The fewer rotations you use, the better your score; your record is saved.
- Hints are available, and Reveal shows the answer.
Why “Verticode”?
Verticode is a vertical code. Like on a combination lock, each row of letters turns left or right, and the secret word reads from top to bottom, in the target column.
